Community Conversations: Sister to Sister, Inc. is entering a new fiscal year. We’re looking for a Treasurer to step into a community leader role with fiduciary responsibility as a new member of our Board of Directors. Our main goals are to reset our financial foundations, build a sustainability plan, and scale the work rooted in our community’s wisdom and values with shared governance.

This is envisioned as a governance role — you provide financial oversight and leadership while partnering closely with the CEO, who holds day-to-day operational execution. We’re looking for someone who understands that distinction while also understanding that this role has historically been operational. The Treasurer will work alongside 1-2 Resource Stewardship Fellows, collaborating on community accountability and creative approaches to resourcing the mission.

WHAT THIS ROLE HOLDS

– Governance oversight of CC’s financial affairs, accounts, and records

– Leading the annual budget process in partnership with the CEO (3-mos to next fiscal year)

– Serving as authorized signatory on CC’s bank accounts, along with the CEO

– Anchoring the finance presentation at quarterly Board governance meetings

– Chairing CC’s Finance Committee in between governance meetings

– Meeting regularly with the CEO on financial health, planning, and community accountability

– Partnering with the Resource Stewardship Fellow(s) on sustainability planning and creative resource stewardship

– Optional attendance at Fundraising Committee Meetings.

– Co-creating with CEO a resource sustainability plan that advances CC’s scaling and growth

TIME COMMITMENT & TERMS

Quarterly governance meetings in September, December, March, and June (1 hour each), plus Finance Committee sessions and periodic CEO check-ins. Estimated 4–6 hours per quarter. Primarily remote, with at least one in-person onboarding visit to our bank in Cambridge.  Initial board appointments are 1, 2, or up to 3 years. Term length is determined in conversation with the incoming Treasurer and Board Chair based on availability and organizational need.

SYSTEMS

The Treasurer will work with QuickBooks, CC’s bank account dashboard, and grant financial reports. Prior experience with these tools is a plus, but not requried; willingness to learn is what matters most.

Whether your background is in accounting, nonprofit finance, budgeting, or resource management in any form — what matters most is a genuine connection to the communities CC serves, a readiness to show up with consistency and curiosity, and an openness to co-creating governance structures that reflect our values. Proximity to Cambridge is helpful. A connection to the people CC serves is everything.
