For nearing 17 years, Community Conversations: Sister to Sister, Inc has been one of Cambridge's community-driven infrastructures for Black women's health and collective care. Today, we're opening the door towards Sister to Steward — our first structured peer support training and internal certification program.

The pilot is supported by the City of Cambridge Community Safety Department and runs through July 15, 2026.

What Sister to Steward is

Sister to Steward upskills and trains community members as frontline responders and peer educators within a learner-directed wellbeing ecosystem — in service of ourselves, our families, and to the benefit of our neighbors and greater society. Stewards complete a 3–5 session internal certification curriculum and step into peer support and sister-sibling navigation roles within CCS2S.

We're starting small on purpose. The inaugural cohort will bring together at least four to five stewards so we can hold each one with care, document what we learn, and ground the case for what comes next.

What stewards receive

  • A $1,000 wellbeing stipend in recognition of time, presence, and learning.

  • A $500 community gathering budget they directs toward their own Sister to Steward project, conversation, or gathering.

  • Internal certification as a peer support and sister-sibling navigator within CCS2S.

The premise is that resources for community safety should rest in community hands.

Three consultant roles open

To co-lead the pilot, we're hiring three consultants and launching a request for proposals. Each is compensated $8,000–$12,000 for the engagement, scoped at signing.

No degree is required for any of these roles though each requires specific skills and agreed deliverables. We welcome people to the conversation whose work lives within or outside formal credentials . You can respond in writing, by voice memo, by short video, or by a 20-minute conversation — whichever is most accessible.

Timeline

  • Applications open: Saturday, April 25, 2026.

  • Priority review: Monday, May 4, 2026. Rolling thereafter until filled.

  • Ideal start: Friday, May 8, 2026.

  • Engagement closes: Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

  • Important Dates and Notes on Community Rhythm: The Community Steering Committee meets bimonthly, the Monday preceding and immediately after the Sunday gatherings. The next two gatherings are Sunday, May 17th (virtual) and Sunday, June 14th (in-person/Cambridge, MA), and the Monday meetings will be 7-8:30pm ET. The three consultants are being asked to share an availability window of 12-5pm ET, most weekdays with select weeknights and weekend commitments.
